West Bengal is state in east India has its capital as Kolkata. Moreover, it stretches from Himalayas in the north to Bay of Bengal in the south. And the houses of west Bangal are the world famous Sunderbans. While travel this city you will see that it has nineteen districts and the major cities are Kolkata, Siliguri, Burdwan, Durgapur, Kharagpur, Darjeeling and Malda. West Bengal is one of the most industrialized states and Tea, Steel, Jute, Sugar, Chemical, Fertilizers, Medicines and Pharmaceuticals are some of the important industries in this industrial state.

The agriculture of this Industrial state mainly constitutes crops such as rice, maize, pulses, oil seeds, wheat, barley, potatoes and vegetables. The total length of surface road in West Bengal is over 92,023 km (57,180 mi); national highways comprise 2,377 km (1,477 mi) and state highways 2,393 km (1,487 mi). The road density of the state is 103.69 km per 100 km² (166.92 mi per 100 sq mi), higher than the national average of 74.7 km per 100 km² (120 mi per 100 sq mi).

The Kolkata Port Trust manages both the Kolkata docks and the Haldia docks there. Furthermore, Kolkata is the only city in India to have trams as a mode of transport and these are operated by the Calcutta Tramways Company.
Various government-owned organisations operate substandard bus services in the state, including the Calcutta State Transport Corporation, the North Bengal State Transport Corporation, the South Bengal State Transport Corporation, the West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation, and the Calcutta Tramways Company, thus leading to mismanagement. You will find private bus companies there. The railway system is a nationalised service without any private investment. Hired forms of transport include metered taxis and auto rickshaws which often ply specific routes in cities. In most of the state, cycle rickshaws, and in Kolkata, hand-pulled rickshaws, are also used for short-distance travel.

Language
The official language is Bengali. Hindi and English are also used commonly. Nepali is spoken primarily in the Darjeeling district. Languages such as Rajbongshi, Santali and Ho are used in some parts of the state. Urdu is used primarily in Central Kolkata.

Location
West Bengal is situated in the eastern part of India, which shares its international border with Bangladesh, apart from Nepal and Bhutan. West Bengal also shares ethno-linguistic similarity with Bangladesh. It stretches from Himalayas in the north to the Bay of Bengal in the south. West Bengal stands surrounded by Assam and Sikkim in the northeast, and Orissa in the southwest and the states of Jharkhand and Bihar in the west. Moreover, the exact co-ordinate location of the state is 27°13'15" and 21°25'24" north latitudes and 85°48'20" and 89°53'04" east longitudes.

Weather
The climate of this state varies considerably, being savannah like in the southern portions, to being humid-subtropical in the north. West Bengal experiences four main seasons of summer, monsoon, autumn and winter. Summer in this region is excessively humid, although the western highlands experience a dry summer like that of northern India. In summer, the temperature ranges from 38 degrees to 45 degrees Celsius. Night is cooler there because of the southerly breeze carrying the moisture from the Bay of Bengal. However, the early summers in West Bengal sees brief thunderstorms known as Kalbaishaki.

Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport of Kolkata makes West Bengal easily accessible by air from other states and countries. Popular airlines of this state world like Jet Airways, Air India, Indian Airlines, Bangladesh Biman, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Sahara Airlines, Kingfisher and many domestic airlines like Indigo, Deccan serve the airport. There are some domestic airports as well in Malda, Bagdogra, Cooch Bihar, Durgapur and Balurghat.

Rail Junction
Howrah Junction and Sealdah Station are important railway stations in this state that connect the state with other important cities through the Eastern Railway network.

Transport
Bombay Road and Delhi Road are two of the important National Highways connecting to the state with the northern and southern parts of the country.
