Uttar Pradesh is the largest in terms of population in India. It has close to 160 million inhabitants that is more than the total population of Western Europe! Thia state stretches from the Northern ridge of the Arravallies near Ghaziabad to the lush green Ganges basin at Allahabad. People of various race and religion, which are inhabited this state have contributed in the composite culture of Uttar Pradesh. These contributions can be seen in various fields such as cuisine, architecture, music and poetry etc all these have made "UP" a place to travel and explore.

Uttar Pradesh tourism boasts of some of the most visited tourist spots in India. Taj Mahal and Ghats of Varanasi are two of the jewel of Uttar Pradesh Tourism and it is rightly said that there is none left in this world that could match the magnificence of Taj. Uttar Pradesh tourism attracts a large number of visitors both national and international. The city of Agra that gives access to three world heritage sites: "Taj Mahal", "Agra Fort", and "Fatehpur Sikri" the world famous 16th century capital city near Agra, these are build by the Mughal emperor Akbar the Great, whose mausoleum in Agra is also worth a visit.

You must see the holiest of the holy cities of Hindus on the banks of sacred rivers Ganga and the Yamuna: Varanasi, which is also considered world's oldest city, Ayodhya that is a birth place of Lord Rama, Mathura (birth place of Lord Krishna) and Allahabad the confluence or 'holy-sangam' of the sacred Ganga-Yamuna rivers. Every year, thousands of people gather at Allahabad to take part in the festival held on the banks of the Ganges, the Magh Mela.

Airports
This state has four important airports and 23 air strips. Cities that have nationally well connected domestic airports are Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi. Lucknow itself is the biggest and most important airport of the state.

Rail junctions
Here, almost all the major as well as smaller cities of the state are linked through railways. Even, Uttar Pradesh has a largest railway network in the country; with a total length of 8,546 km (2006), it has the sixth largest railway density.

Location
This state stretches along the Indian border with Nepal from Northern India towards the East of India. Uttar Pradesh is lion shaped and is surrounded by Uttaranchal in North East, Haryana and Delhi in North, Rajasthan in West, Madhya Pradesh in South West, Chhattisgarh in South, Bihar in South East and East and Nepal along its East.

Weather
Summer season of this state persists from April to August. The daytime temperature remains very high and usually touches around 45°C in Western Uttar Pradesh and Agra zone where as it remains around 42°C in Eastern Utter Pradesh. Winters are a lot cooler with day temperature pleasant around 24°C., and nights are chilly with temperature getting as low as 2 to 4°C across the state. Earlier Eastern regions were comparatively warmer but due to persistent change in the weather trends, even these areas fall under intense cold wave.

Uttar Pradesh stretches from North India towards Eastern, the rainfall varies considerably. Whereas the South West monsoon is very moderate in Western Uttar Pradesh and it rains very heavily in short spells as far as Oudh and Eastern regions are concerned. The average annual rainfall varies from 105-110 centimeters in places like Allahabad, Varanasi and Azamgarh to as low as 45-50 centimeters in Agra, Ghaziabad and Merrut. Relative humidity in semi-arid regions like Agra, Firozabad and Dadri is very high to the point where it becomes uncomfortable. The approximate average of annual rainfall in the state is around 65-70 centimeters.

Transport
Uttar Pradesh Transport Department is one of the largest revenue earning departments in the state that deales with various transport related matters like driving licenses, registration of motor vehicles, grant and renewal of permits, collection of taxes, fees. And all the other regulatory and enforcement functions assigned to it under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It functions through the Transport Commissioner's organization, with its headquarters at Lucknow, and RTO & ARTO offices spread all across the Uttar Pradesh.
