Rajasthan is the largest state of India that was formed on 30 March 1949 with Jaipur as the state capital. It was also known as the 'Land of the Kings', as the state still retains the glory and richness of those times with its marvelous monuments, colourful traditions and customs. This glorious state covers most of the area of the Great Indian desert (Thar Desert) with one edge paralleling the Sutlej - Indus river valley along with its border with Pakistan. Rajasthan state was a part of Ashoka's empire in the 3rd century BC. Later in the 7th century AD the Bactrians,the Scythians,the Guptas, and Harshavardhana ruled this region.
The land synonymous with romance and chivalry is immensely rich in culture, history and natural beauty that always teeming with colour, joy and friendliness. Climate of Rajasthan varies from semi arid to arid. The mercury touches 49 degrees centigrade at some places during summer and drops below freezing point during winter. Though the average annual rainfall ranges between 200-400 mm, it is as low as 150 mm in extreme arid zones and as high as 1000 mm in the south eastern part of the State.

The best way to travel to Jaipur is the rail. Jaipur is well connected with the rest of the cities through rail lines and it takes less than five hours to travel from Delhi to Jaipur in a train. The central railway station that is Jaipur railway station is located in the Bani Park region. Many trains run from Delhi and other cities to Jaipur like 'Palace on Wheels' which is the important amongst the trains that run through these lands. This train provides for the luxurious travel with the royal touch of Jaipur. Rajasthan has a wide network of bus services. And Jaipur is very well connected by buses from New Delhi's Bikaner. House, ISTD Bus Stand and Kalle Khan. Buses leave New Delhi every 15 minutes. The condition of roads in Rajasthan are generally of good condition. You can take Taxis and cabs as well that can easily be hired from most tourist destinations in Rajasthan. They range from utility to the luxurious with or without chauffeurs there.
Auto rickshaws & Cycle rickshaws are aslo there for short distance traveling. Tempos are the other mode of noisy vehicles, which are a little larger than auto rickshaws and ply on designated routes at fixed rates. Moreover, Tongas are horse driven carriages and a great way to enjoy the old world charms of a bygone era.
