Meghalaya is endowed with incredible natural beauty, it is one of the most beautiful states in Northeast India. Meghalaya tourism has great potential, which is still untapped and unexplored. Meghalaya tourism department has also formulated many plans and tourism policies, to attract more domestic and international tourists, and that would lead to the economic development and generation of ample employment opportunities in this increadible state.
Meghalaya is also emphasizing on adventure tourism in Meghalaya that include trekking, caving, and water sports. Rock climbing and Hand gliding will be promoted with recognized adventure and sports associations. So For this is place is heaven for adventurous people.

This state of northeast India is bordered to the north by Assam, to the south by Bangladesh; area 22,489 sq km/8,683 sq mi; population (2001 est) 2,306,100, mainly Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo. Capital of this meghalaye state is Shillong. It is upland with hills reaching 2,000 m/6,500 ft, rising steeply in the south away from its border with Bangladesh. There is heavy monsoon rainfall and minerals in the area include coal, limestone, white clay, and corundum, which are mainly unexploited. Industries include mineral extraction that includes 95% of India's sillimanite, a mineral from which high-grade ceramic clay is derived. It's agricultural products include cotton, potatoes, fruit, rice, maize, timber, and jute.

Location:-
Meghalaya is located in the northeast region of India, extending from latitude 20°1' N and 26°5' N and longitude 85°49' E and 92°52' E. It extends for about 300 km in length and about 100 km in width. This is bounded on the north and east by the Indian state of Assam and on the south and west by Bangladesh.

Weather:-
Climate of Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills is uniquely pleasant and caressing. It is neither too warm in summer nor too cold in winter, but over the plains of Garo Hills, the climate of this state is hot and humid, except in winter. The Meghalaya state sky is always covered by clouds, truly giving it the name of Meghalaya (Megh - clouds; Alaya - abode of). Average annual rainfall here is about 1,150 cm.

Airport:-
There is only one airport in the State at Umroi, is 35 km from Shillong.

Rail junction:-
Unfortunatly, there is no railway station in Meghalaya. But, Guwahati railway station is the nearest railway station of Meghalaya for those visitors who are recently planning to go to Meghalaya that too not taking the trouble of paying a huge amount of money behind airline transportations there. And the most of the trains come up to the Paltan Bazar railway station of Guwahati.

Transport:-
There are six national highways pass through Meghalaya. Meghalaya has 7,977.98 km of both surfaced and unsurfaced roads.
