About Maharashtra:-
The name Maharashtra means the 'The Great State' or 'Great Nation'. Name of this state is said to have been originated probably from 'rathi' that means 'Chariot driver', referring to drivers and builders of chariots who were known as 'maharathis' or 'Fighting Force'. Maharashtra gets its name aptly as it is the largest states in India, both in terms of area as well as population. Maharashtra spans 308000 km² with a population over 78,937,000. Maharashtra is an Indian state that is located on the western part of the country with the Arabian Sea making up its western coast.
This is the third largest state in India area-wise and its capital is Mumbai, which is one of the most important cities of India. Maharashtra has a highly developed economy and it is a wonderful place for spending vacations. Maharashtra lure numerous tourists from all parts of India and abroad. Its diverse topography has given birth to a range of stunning landscape and on a trip to Maharashtra. You will come across beautiful hill-stations, rocky terrain and some of the finest caves that are just a few of the many tourist attractions in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is one of the largest in India in terms of both size and population, stands mostly on the high Deccan plateau which stretches east some 800 km. from the Western Ghats. It has the Arabian sea on the west, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the north, Madhya Pradesh on the east, and Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to the south. This state has led the country's industrial development scenario, in the past and continues to attract the largest quantum of investments, both from the domestic and foreign investors. The largest share of public funds amongst any other States for development of industrial and social infrastructure, it is a hallmark of State policy. It contributes 22% of India's net value added in organized industrial sector, 40% of India's Internet users are in Maharashtra and the State accounts for around 30% of software exports, 70 percent of India's stock transactions are carried out in Mumbai.

Maharashtra state is situated in the western part of India and covers the entire Deccan region. State stands bounded by Chhattisgarh in the east, Madhya Pradesh in the north, Karnataka in the south, Goa in the southwest, Andhra Pradesh in the southeast and Gujarat in the northwest. Situated in between Maharashtra and Gujarat is the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Summer season in Maharashtra sets somewhere around the month of March to till May, during this time, the average temperature remains in the range of 22 deg C to 40 deg C. Areas in and around Maharashtra usually experience the onset of monsoon before the northern cities. By the first week of June, monsoon arrives in the city and starts retreating somewhere in the month of September. In October, the weather in Maharashtra is quite pleasant and it is around November that the chill starts setting in. The state experiences winter season till Feburary, characterized by clear skies, gentle breezes and pleasant weather. The usual temperature around this time is somewhere between 12 deg C to 25 deg C.

Moreover, the domestic terminal in Mumbai is known as the Santa Cruz Airport that is at a distance of 4 km from Sahar, where the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located. Domestic airports in the cities of Pune, Nashik, Solapur, Auranghabad. Maharashtra is one of the states in India which has an international airport. Airport has 36 airlines which provide flights to all the major cities of the world. Furthermore, the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport covers an area of 1450 acres and was formerly known as the Sahar International Airport.

Mumbai is the center of the railway network in Maharashtra which owns three major railway stations and the headquarters of two Railway Zones in India. Mumbai is well connected to most of the important cities in India by rail. Many important tourist spots in the state are directly connected to Mumbai by regular trains. Trains are the best mode of transportation in Maharashtra.

You can get local buses, semi-deluxe buses, deluxe buses, and many more, for traveling to one city from the other. Local buses are also available for covering short distances within the city. However, Taxis are easily available in Maharashtra, for going from one city to the other as well as for traveling within the city but make sure to either go by meter or to fix the fare in advance. Auto Rickshaws are the perfect for moving over short distances, in the city itself.
