Madhya Pradesh state consisted of the region called "Malwa", this region was occupied by the predecessors of the Bhils, Gonds and other tribes who had to confront the Aryans. Malwa region is also found to have evidences of a civilization contemporary to the Indus Valley Civilization. It is excelled in art and architecture during the period of Buddhism when this area witnessed the rule of Mauryan empire till 327 B.C. The Sungas also established their influence over this region.
Madhya Pradesh is a second largest state of India, with Rajasthan being the first. Earlier, this place was deemed as the largest state of India, before Chhattisgarh was carved out of it. Madhya Pradesh means 'Central Province', it is an apt name, as MP is exactly located in the center of the Indian map, the entire state of Madhya Pradesh stretches for miles and covers a total area of 3,08,144 sq km. Today, Madhya Pradesh state borders the neighboring states of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
This state can be geographically segregated into several regions, which is based on the distinct cultures and languages of these areas. For example, Malwa plateau falls in the north-west of the state, north of the Vindhya Range. Nimar (Nemar) is the western portion of the Narmada valley and is positioned south of the Vindhyas, in the southwest portion of the state. The fecund region of Bundelkhand, on the other hand, falls in the northern part of the state.
Northwestern region of Madhya Pradesh is Chambal. This mountainous expanse of Chambal is rich in sandstone and was once famous for rampaging pirates. And the hilly terrains towards the northeast are home to the Baghelkhand region, which also incorporates the eastern end of the Vindhya Range. Mahakoshal (Mahakaushal) is the southeastern portion of the state and include the eastern part of the Narmada valley and the eastern Satpuras within its realm. There is also the Central Vindhya and Satpura region that spreads over most of the central Narmada river valley.

Summers are hot and humid and the winters are extremely pleasant. Best time to visit Madhya Pradesh is between the months of November and February. The mercury shows a steady rise from the month of March with the mean maximum temperature hovering somewhere between 40-42.5 degree Celsius and May is possibly the hottest month. The beginning in the end of June and extending till the end of August, monsoon brings succor to the parched land. MP records the maximum rainfall from June to September. Average temperature can drop as low as -10 degree Celsius in northern Madhya Pradesh.

The major airports of Madhya Pradesh are Bhopal, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Indore and Jabalpur, connecting it with the other parts of India through air. Many public as well as private aircrafts have regular services to the cities.
Rail junction:-
Madhya Pradesh has more than 623 major and minor railway stations. The Bhopal Junction is the main railway station of Bhopal and Bhopal Habibganj is a suburban railway station in Bhopal that are considered as world class railway stations with all international passenger facilities. Asides, these railway stations, Indore Junction, Gwalior Junction, Jabalpur Junction and Khajuraho railway stations are considered to be the "Adarsh Railway Station" or "Idol" railway stations with all the common passenger facilities.
Transport:-
There are state run buses to Maheshwar, Omkareshwar, Gwalior and Bhopal whereas interstate buses ply to and from Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Mumbai. Buses are the convenient and cheapest mode of transport in the city. Shared autos are another convenient way of traveling, especially to places, where the buses do not ply. Taxis and auto rickshaws can also be hired as a safe and comfortable mode of transport within the city of MP.
