Location
It is located between 89o42' to 96o30' East Longitude and 22o19' to 28o16' North Latitude is the gateway to the north eastern part of India. It extends from and between the foot hills of the Eastern Himalayas and the Patkai and Naga Ranges, Assam is bordered by Bhutan in the North; Arunachal Pradesh in the East; Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram in the south; Meghalaya in the South-West and Bengal and Bangladesh on the West.
Weather
Assam, essentially, observes temperate climate. Its weather is characterized by heavy downpour and humidity. Moreover, temperature never goes beyond 35°C - 38°C even in the summer months. Rain showers occur erratically and keep the temperature under control, nevertheless humidity levels shoot up. Usually the intensity of rainfall crosses the extent and leads to natural catastrophes like floods and during the afternoons, thunderstorms are very common, such heavy precipitation lasts till the month of September. However, during these months, rainfall appears at its utmost form in Assam, from late-October to late-February, winter season exists in the state marked by minimum temperature of 6°C to 8°C. Winter, nights and early mornings are misty. This is only time when Assam observes scanty rainfall. Furthermore, spring and autumn seasons continue to carry moderate temperatures and less rainfall, making the most suitable seasons to visit Assam.
Airport
Assam state is well connected to the major cities of India. Various domestic airlines fly to Assam like the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati is well connected by air to most of the metros in the country. Air India also operates an international weekly flight between Bangkok and Guwahati as well.
Rail junction
Assam has a convenient railway network both within the state and with the rest of the country. There are several train services from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum. B.G. line connection is up to Dibrugarh and M.G. line with Haflong and Silchar. Major towns within the state are also connected by the railway network.

Various private travel companies as well as the Assam State Transport Corporation operate a large network of buses around the state.
